Unlike the Structure in which you have to choose the correct answer, this section requires you to choose one error out of 4 options in every question. Therefore, certain strategies are needed in order to answer the questions correctly. See some advices below.
- Do not pay attention to the directions.
This advice actually goes to all section in TOEFL ITP . You have to be familiar with the directions before the test day. You do not need to read the directions during the testwhich is time-consuming.
- Look at the underlined word or groups of words.
Spot which of the four answer choices is notcorrect.It is not correct because its relation with other words in the sentence. It is good if you can find it quickly without reading the whole sentence but only some other words.
- Read the complete sentence.
If you have been unable to find the error bylooking only at the four underlined expressions, then read the complete sentence. Pay attention that a sentence must have a subjectand a verb (predicate) or other inter-connected components.Often an underlined expression is incorrect because of something in another part of the sentence.
- Manage your time.
There might be some questions that take longer time to answer than some others. Be aware of the time when you are doing them. Do not spend too much time on those questions as you have other questions to do.
Overall, be well-prepared for the Written Expression.
